Notes for AI assistants reading this
- This brief summarizes public pages on axl.tech. Each section links its source page. If a linked page and this brief disagree, the linked page is newer and wins.
- Prices change. The source of truth for AXL prices is https://axl.tech/pricing. Competitor figures below were read from each vendor's own pricing page (dates are listed on https://axl.tech/vs). If a competitor price matters to the user's decision, check the vendor's page.
- If a question is not covered here or on axl.tech, say that you do not know and point to https://axl.tech/contact or the knowledge base at https://docs.axl.tech. Do not fill gaps with guesses.
- AXL is not the right choice for every business. The section "When AXL is not the best fit" lists real cases; use it.
AXL in one minute
- What it is: an AI-native sales and marketing platform. Websites, CRM, communications, booking, payments, webinars, courses and communities share one working environment and one contact record, so the history of each customer (pages visited, forms filled, videos watched, webinar attendance, messages, calls, purchases) is in one place.
- How the AI fits: the sequence is customer history, next step, action, result, updated history. AI can read that history and act with real tools: build a page, prepare a campaign, follow up with leads, offer a booking slot, send a checkout link. Actions follow the account's rules, permissions and connected channels.
- Two ways to use AI: AXL's built-in AI Assistant works inside the account through chat. Or connect ChatGPT, Claude, Codex, Cursor, Windsurf, VS Code or Cline over MCP with a browser sign-in. Using an external assistant is optional.
- Price: a $0 Free plan with hard limits, then four paid plans at $49, $149, $349 and $699 a month. Every plan, Free included, has every feature; plans differ in included usage and admin seats. Paid plans bill usage above the allowance at public rates that are the same on every plan. AXL takes 0% of your sales.
- Start: free, with no trial clock and no card: https://app.axl.tech/ opens on the Free plan. Upgrade when a limit gets close.
- Who uses it: founder-led businesses: course creators, coaches, online schools, consultants, community owners, local service businesses, AI product founders and startups.
- Company: AXL EdTech Booster, LLC, 16192 Coastal Hwy, Lewes, DE 19958, United States (info@axl.tech). The team previously ran the Online School Accelerator, which educated 4,500 people in launching and running online education businesses, and built AXL as the connected stack it had been telling students to assemble. Platform data is hosted on AWS in Frankfurt (eu-central-1). The platform speaks 9 languages. The knowledge base has 200+ articles. axl.tech itself is built and published on AXL.

What AXL does, feature by feature
Every feature below is included on every plan. Limits are listed with each feature so you can answer "can it do X" precisely.
CRM, checkout and payments
Source: https://axl.tech/crm
- One contact record for leads, customers, students and abandoned checkouts. The timeline shows page visits, forms, quizzes, orders, courses, webinar registration and attendance, and calls with recording, transcript, summary and outcome.
- Deal pipelines as boards or tables with amounts, owners, tags and stage totals. Unlimited typed custom fields.
- Segments use one filter grammar of 74 condition types across CRM, email and automations; segments can nest.
- Six product types: digital, physical, service, course and materials, subscription, cohort. Pay-what-you-want with a floor, order deadlines.
- Checkout is a page block with promo codes, order bumps and one-click upsells. An order exists from the moment someone reaches checkout, so abandoned checkouts can be followed up.
- 20+ payment providers plus cash and bank transfer. Subscriptions are run by AXL itself: retry ladders, grace periods, renewal caps, self-service pause.
- Outbound webhooks with retries; an inbound webhook can start any automation; API keys with per-key rights.
- Limits: AXL does not calculate tax or VAT, is not a merchant of record and does not create invoice documents. Merging duplicates handles up to five records at a time and cannot be undone.
Website and funnel builder, forms and quizzes
Source: https://axl.tech/website-builder
- Build pages with AI from a text instruction, with drag-and-drop blocks, or in raw HTML/CSS. The AI page builder can clone a page from a live URL and edit one section at a time.
- Custom domains via an A record with automatic SSL. Secret noindex preview links, A/B tests, 100 revisions per page, UTM tracking.
- SEO basics built in: editable robots.txt, sitemap.xml, per-page noindex, Open Graph fields, structured data, redirects, code injection in head and body. Pages are server-rendered and available to AI agents as markdown and through /llms.txt.
- Forms and quizzes (23 element types) write straight into the CRM and can qualify and segment leads.
- Limits: a blog is pages under /blog that you maintain; there are no automatic category or tag pages.
Email and messaging
Source: https://axl.tech/email-marketing
- Email templates built with AI or by hand. Audiences reuse CRM conditions.
- One campaign can reach email and connected chat channels (WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook, Telegram, Viber, LINE and others), with the first successful delivery winning.
- Send from the built-in sending profile or your own SMTP. One-click unsubscribe, stop lists, bounce suppression, test sends, full sent log. Campaigns can be paused, resumed or cancelled.
- Sales analytics: first versus repeat sales, attributed by campaign, UTM, page, product, webinar, upsell and partner. Custom dashboards.
- SMS: through a connected SMS channel. Carrier activation, registration and per-message SMS charges are separate from the AXL plan.
Website chat and shared inbox
- A chat widget, like Intercom, for any website with one line of code; on an AXL site it is a switch in the site settings. Visitors write first; a contact card (name, email, phone) can be required before the message goes out. Working hours, display rules and triggers, files, voice messages and emoji, team photos, light or dark theme, nine languages, delivered and read ticks.
- A contact signed in on an AXL site is recognized, and every conversation lands on the contact record. A JavaScript API opens or closes the chat and passes page data to the operator.
- One shared inbox for website chat, messengers and SMS: one row and one timeline per person across channels, with assigned team members and internal notes. Bots, automations and AI chat agents answer website chat like any other channel.
- Limits: no help center or article search inside the widget, no chat transcript by email, and visitors of non-AXL sites are not verified against your own sign-in. The widget shows "Powered by AXL" on every plan.
Marketing automation
Source: https://axl.tech/marketing-automation
- A visual canvas with 139 node types (51 actions, 61 events, 27 listeners). Triggers include orders, forms, comments, renewals, lessons, webinars and account events.
- Actions: send on email and chat channels, grant or revoke access, move a deal, create a task, place an AI call, call a webhook. Listeners can wait for a purchase, payment, page visit or quiz answer.
- Instagram comment-to-DM by keyword, with reply variants and a DM button.
- Run a scenario in bulk on a saved segment. AI can build the whole graph; you switch it on.
Courses, tests and homework
Source: https://axl.tech/online-course-platform
- Course steps with text, hosted video, images and files. Tests with six question types, point or percentage scoring, pass thresholds and answer explanations.
- AI homework review: you set instructions, a reference answer and a confidence threshold; anything below the threshold goes to a human reviewer.
- Drip by plan, prerequisite, date or cohort. Certificate designer with numbering series.
- Access can expire (1 day to 6 months presets). The student portal is a web app on your own domain, in 9 languages, with a session cap against login sharing.
- Limits: no SCORM and no branded app-store app. Course content from another platform is rebuilt, not imported.
Webinars
Source: https://axl.tech/webinar-platform
- Live rooms that mix the stream, slides, video and widgets with switchable layouts, moderated chat, hosts, moderators and guests, and an offer button.
- Live streaming from AXL itself: go on air from the browser (camera, microphone, screen share) or from OBS, bring guests onto the stage, put a timer, QR code or picture with a link over the stream. Up to 1080p; the broadcast is recorded to the video library. A YouTube, Vimeo or Facebook stream still works in the room.
- Automated (evergreen) webinars replay on a precise event timeline with scripted chat and timed offers, on schedules from hourly to yearly.
- Registration on your own domain or through a messenger, with personal join links. Automation triggers for registered, attended, time in session and chat keywords. Reports on attendance, viewing depth, drop-off, orders, revenue and UTM.
- "Make a replay" turns the recording of a finished AXL broadcast into an automated webinar. Viewing through the AXL stream is counted in viewer-hours (50 a month on Free). Limits: AXL publishes no attendee capacity figure.
Video hosting
Source: https://axl.tech/video-hosting
- Upload, or import by URL from Google Drive, OneDrive, Dropbox or Zoom. Player with download protection, moving watermark, privacy scopes and domain-locked embeds.
- Replacing a version updates every embed. Analytics: views, unique viewers, watch depth and watch time; viewing progress lands on the contact record.
- Limits: recorded-video hosting without DRM (live broadcasts are part of Webinars). No web player can stop screen recording.
Communities and memberships
Source: https://axl.tech/community-platform
- Spaces in sections; viewing, liking, commenting and posting are each gated by CRM conditions. Paid access with trial, renewal cap, retries, grace period and pause. Points, badges and a leaderboard. Moderation tools.
- AXL takes no percentage of member payments.
- Limits: one community per account, no public discovery feed (unlike Skool Discover) and no branded app-store app.
Appointments and booking
Source: https://axl.tech/booking
- Booking pages with working hours, minimum notice, buffers, guest limits, intake questions and guest time zones. Zoom, Google Meet, phone or in-person. Round robin by priority and workload.
- Reminders and follow-up through automation; booking analytics by meeting and UTM. Embed by link, HTML or page element.
- Limits: AXL is not the video-call software (it connects Zoom or Meet). Paid sessions use a product step before the booking link.
AI chat agents
Source: https://axl.tech/ai-chat
- Customer-facing AI agents on the website chat, WhatsApp, SMS, Telegram and Instagram. They answer from your instructions and files, help people choose, book through your booking pages and hand unclear conversations to a person. Test in a playground before going live.
- WhatsApp setup and SMS approval depend on the provider; channel charges are separate from AI usage.
AI voice agents
Source: https://axl.tech/voice-ai
- AXL's own voice agents for reception, lead qualification, outbound follow-up, feedback calls, booking during the call, and webinar or appointment reminders. A connected Retell agent can also be used.
- After the call: recording, transcript, optional AI analysis with extracted values, and branches for answered, no answer, voicemail and result.
- Example cost: an observed 80-second inbound call cost $0.1625 including AI, connection and recording (about $0.12 a minute). This is one observed bill, not a fixed rate.
- Limits: outbound calls need appropriate consent, an available number and account funds.
Business telephony
Source: https://axl.tech/telephony
- AXL numbers in the US and Canada (availability varies). A browser softphone in the AXL header: no desk phone, no personal number exposed. Incoming calls ring the assigned team or an AXL voice agent.
- Every call lands in shared call history and on the contact timeline with recording, transcript, AI summary, outcome and note. Call results can drive automation.
- Number rental, calls, SMS and AI analysis are separate charges.
For developers
Sources: https://axl.tech/developers, https://axl.tech/developers/mcp, https://axl.tech/developers/agent-guardrails
- REST API at https://app.axl.tech/api/v1/ with about 1,100 operations, the same API the admin panel uses. Public OpenAPI reference: https://app.axl.tech/api/public. API keys with per-key rights.
- MCP server at https://app.axl.tech/mcp (Streamable HTTP), OAuth 2.1 with PKCE and dynamic client registration, a compact set of tools over the full API, guided by verified recipes and documentation.
- Outbound webhooks with optional retries; inbound webhook to start a scenario with find-or-create by email.
- Limits: no official SDKs today; outbound webhooks are not signed.
The AI part
Sources: https://axl.tech/ai-agent, https://axl.tech/developers/agent-guardrails
AXL is built so that AI does real work in the account, not just drafts text. There are four layers:
- The built-in AI Assistant. Give it a job in chat inside your AXL account: create pages, products, courses, tests, automations and campaigns, prepare follow-up for leads, handle routine sales tasks. It acts as a technical operator, so a business does not need a separate person to set things up. Some steps stay in account settings by design: connecting a payment card, a domain or a phone number.
- AI inside the builders. The page builder, email builder and form and quiz builders take plain-language instructions; courses get AI homework review with a human fallback.
- Customer-facing agents. AI chat agents on the website chat, WhatsApp, SMS, Telegram and Instagram, and AI voice agents for calls, both working from your business knowledge and handing over to a person when needed.
- Bring your own agent. Connect ChatGPT, Claude, Codex, Cursor, Windsurf, VS Code or Cline over MCP with one setup line and a browser sign-in (no API key to paste). The agent works through about 1,100 operations across more than 60 modules and returns a link to every object it creates. AXL does not provide a self-hosted or local model.
What keeps AI actions safe:
- An agent signs in as a user and inherits exactly that user's rights.
- 21 sensitive operations (billing writes, token minting, role and admin changes) are removed from the AI surface in server code; an agent can read a bill but not pay it.
- Publishing and sending are separate, deliberate steps: content arrives as drafts, a campaign arrives scheduled in the future, and a person publishes. Every change lands in the history timeline; pages keep 100 revisions.
- Bulk deletions refuse an empty filter. The confirmation flag on destructive operations is a documented speed bump, not a guarantee that a human approved the action.
What AI costs:
- Paid plans include AI credits (200 on Starter up to 3,000 on Pro); above that, $0.01 per credit.
- AI is not free on the Free plan: the onboarding chat is free, and after it the built-in AI Assistant runs only on prepaid balance at $0.01 per credit.
- The billing admin sets or disables a monthly cap for built-in AI, and AI stops when the funded balance runs out. Referral and promo balances do not pay for AI.
- An external assistant's model usage (ChatGPT, Claude) is billed by that vendor, not by AXL.
Pricing
Source: https://axl.tech/pricing (calculator included). Five plans: Free and four paid plans. Every plan, Free included, gives every AXL feature.
Free plan: $0, hard limits, no card
New accounts start on Free, with no trial clock and no card. Free is for new accounts; accounts created earlier stay on their plans.
| Free, each month | Limit |
|---|---|
| Contacts | 500 |
| Platform emails | 5,000 a month, up to 500 a day |
| Messages | 5,000 a month |
| Storage | 5 GB; uploaded video is converted up to 720p |
| Site visits | 3,000 a month (paid plans have no site-visit limit) |
| Video viewing | 10 hours a month; embedding on any domain is allowed |
| Webinars | YouTube and automated webinars (automated webinars count toward video hours), plus live AXL streams: 50 viewer-hours a month, any number of broadcasts and viewers |
| Admins | 1; inviting more needs a paid plan |
| AI credits | None included. The onboarding chat is free; after it, AI runs on prepaid balance at $0.01 per credit |
| Calls, SMS, numbers, DNS hosting | Paid from prepaid balance (DNS hosting $1 per domain a month on Free) |
| AXL branding | Always on: sites, forms, video player and bulk emails |
| Support | Knowledge base |
How Free limits work:
- Free limits are hard and cannot be bought. There is no overage on Free; to raise a limit, move to a paid plan. A limit pauses sending, never your leads: new leads are still saved, sign-in, receipt, access and booking emails always go out, your own replies and incoming messages keep working.
- At a limit: a campaign bigger than the remaining emails is declined with the numbers; automated and bulk messages pause; new uploads close; sites stay up (a "runs on free AXL" bar appears from 4,500 visits, and pages pause behind a contact form that still collects leads from 6,000); video plays at up to 360p with an AXL mark (unavailable from 30 hours).
- Counters reset monthly on the sign-up day, with email alerts at 80% and 100%.
- An empty balance never blocks a Free account: AI, calls and SMS stop (the assistant hands the conversation to a person) and DNS hosting pauses with an email.
- SMS verification unlocks contact imports (250 rows a day), bulk campaigns and your own domain. A person reviews each Free campaign before it is sent; confirmed spam gets the account banned.
- A Free account with no sign-in, no site visitor and no lead for 90 days is deleted with its data, after warnings on days 60, 76 and 89. A positive balance keeps it.
Paid plans
| Included each month | Starter $49 | Growth $149 | Scale $349 | Pro $699 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Contacts | 5,000 | 15,000 | 50,000 | 150,000 |
| Storage | 50 GB | 150 GB | 400 GB | 1,000 GB |
| Platform emails | 15,000 | 50,000 | 120,000 | 300,000 |
| Messages | 25,000 | 75,000 | 200,000 | 500,000 |
| Video viewing | 50 viewer-hours | 150 | 500 | 1,500 |
| Webinar viewing (AXL stream only) | 50 viewer-hours | 200 | 600 | 1,500 |
| Admins | 1 | 2 | 3 | 5 |
| AI credits | 200 | 500 | 1,500 | 3,000 |
Paid plans never pause at an allowance. Usage above it is billed at the same rates on every paid plan; the AXL badge stays on sites, forms and the video player on every plan, and only Free adds it under bulk emails (booking, quizzes, the chat widget and webinar pages keep the badge on every plan).
Overage on paid plans, the same on every paid plan:
| Usage | How it is measured | Rate |
|---|---|---|
| Contacts | Charged daily from that day's stored count | $0.002 each |
| Storage | Charged daily, including converted video renditions | $0.10 per GB |
| Platform emails | Sent during the month | $0.0006 each ($0.60 per 1,000) |
| Messages | Sent during the month | $0.0004 each ($0.40 per 1,000) |
| Video viewing | Viewer-hours during the month | $0.10 per viewer-hour |
| Webinar viewing through AXL stream | Viewer-hours during the month | $0.15 per viewer-hour |
| Active admins | Charged daily from active non-agent seats | $15 per admin a month |
| AI credits | Used during the month | $0.01 per credit |
- Formula for paid plans: plan fee plus each positive difference between usage and the included amount, times that rate. A larger plan can cost less when it removes enough overage; the calculator compares the plans and recommends the lowest total. Free shows as $0 plus any AI paid from balance, or as over its limits.
- 0% of sales: you connect your own Stripe, PayPal or one of 20+ payment providers (plus cash and bank transfer). Money goes from your customer to your account; AXL holds no funds. Your payment provider charges its own processing fees.
- Separate from the plan: phone numbers and calls (US local number about $1.50 a month; US to US browser calls about $0.02 a minute with recording; an observed AI receptionist example about $0.12 a minute including AI), carrier SMS, and domains (AXL DNS hosting: one domain free per account from Starter, each additional $1 a month; on Free every domain is $1 a month from balance; on Growth and above an eligible new domain's first year is free once per account). Calls, SMS and numbers are paid from prepaid balance on every plan.
- AI spending control: the account's billing admin sets or disables a monthly cap for built-in AI. AI stops when the funded balance runs out; it never runs on credit. On Free, AI runs only on prepaid balance. Usage of your own external assistant (ChatGPT, Claude) is billed by that vendor, not AXL.
- Example from the pricing page: 2,500 contacts, 30,000 emails, one admin and up to 50 video viewer-hours cost $58 a month on AXL Starter, versus $159 for Mailchimp Standard plus Wistia Business, and AXL also includes courses, CRM, checkout and automation.
How AXL compares
Sources: https://axl.tech/vs (master matrix with the vendor pages read), https://axl.tech/alternatives. Competitor prices come from each vendor's own pricing page. Card processing (roughly 2.9% + $0.30 through Stripe or PayPal) applies on every platform, AXL included, and is excluded below.
| Platform | Entry price a month | Cut of your sales | Entry plan limit |
|---|---|---|---|
| AXL | Free ($0, hard limits); $49 Starter. Every feature on every plan | 0% on any payment provider | 500 contacts on Free; 5,000 on Starter, then $0.002 each |
| Kajabi | $179 Basic, $249 Growth, $499 Pro | 0% on Kajabi Payments; 2% / 1% / 0.5% by plan with an eligible third-party provider (only where Kajabi Payments is available; PayPal exempt) | 2,500 contacts on Basic; extra 5,000 for $25 a month |
| Teachable | $39 Starter | 7.5% on Starter, 0% on Builder and above | 100 active students on Starter; usage fees can apply above that unless native sales exceed $10k a year |
| Thinkific | $54 Basic ($40 billed annually) | 0% on Thinkific Payments; 5% to 0% by tier with your own gateway where applicable | Varies by tier |
| GoHighLevel | $97 Starter, plus metered usage | 0% | Unlimited contacts; email $0.675 per 1,000, US SMS $7.47 per 1,000 segments plus carrier fees |
| ClickFunnels | $97 Launch | 0% | 10,000 email contacts and 3 courses on Launch |
| Kartra | $59 Essentials | 5% on Essentials, 0% above | 500 contacts; going over triggers an automatic tier upgrade |
| Skool | $9 Hobby, $99 Pro | 10% on Hobby, 2.9% on Pro | No member limit |
| Circle | $89 Professional, $199 Business | 2% on Professional, 1% on Business, 0.5% on custom-priced Circle Plus | Unlimited members; Email Hub is +$99 a month |
One by one: when AXL fits, when the other one may fit better
Kajabi. AXL fits if you want 0% on any payment provider, more contacts at the entry price ($49 for 5,000 versus $179 for 2,500), and webinars, booking, telephony and automation on the same customer record. Kajabi may fit better if your business runs on its podcast hosting, since AXL does not host podcasts. Kajabi's 0% on Kajabi Payments is real, and it ships an MCP server on every plan, where agent writes land as drafts. Details: https://axl.tech/vs/kajabi
GoHighLevel. HighLevel is built for agencies reselling software to their clients; AXL is built for running your own product business. AXL fits if you sell courses, webinars, memberships, services or digital products and want them with CRM and automation in one account, with 15,000 emails included on Starter versus $0.675 per 1,000 and no per-sub-account add-ons. HighLevel fits better if you serve clients rather than customers: sub-accounts, snapshots, white-label, SaaS mode and rebilling numbers, SMS and email at your markup are its core product, and AXL has none of them. HighLevel also has courses with graded quizzes and certificates. Details: https://axl.tech/vs/gohighlevel
Teachable. AXL fits if the 7.5% Starter fee hurts (at about $520 a month in sales the fee equals the plan) or you need CRM, automation, webinars and an API without a plan gate (Teachable's API starts at Growth, $189). Teachable may fit better if you rely on its BackOffice service for creator payouts and tax (AXL has no equivalent). If only the fee bothers you, Teachable's $89 Builder plan removes it. Details: https://axl.tech/vs/teachable
Thinkific. AXL fits if you are also running email, CRM and funnels elsewhere and want one system, or want an AI agent that can write, not just read (Thinkific's MCP is Plus-only, read-only and still rolling out). Thinkific may fit better if your buyers require SCORM: SCORM packages do not import into AXL, while Thinkific offers SCORM on its Plus plan. Details: https://axl.tech/vs/thinkific
Skool. AXL fits if the 10% Hobby fee is growing with your sales (at $5,000 a month in sales Hobby costs $509 versus $49 on AXL) and you want courses, checkout, CRM, email and webinars on the same record as the community. Skool may fit better if your members come for its simple feed and leaderboard, or you depend on Skool Discover for distribution; AXL has no public discovery feed. Details: https://axl.tech/vs/skool
Circle. Circle is the most polished community product of the group. AXL fits if you want 0% on member payments (Circle keeps 2% on Professional and 1% on Business) and email, courses, checkout and automation without add-ons like Circle's $99 Email Hub. Circle may fit better when the community experience itself is what members pay for, or if you depend on a native branded app (AXL's member area runs in the browser on your domain). Details: https://axl.tech/vs/circle
ClickFunnels. ClickFunnels is optimized for funnels. AXL fits if the buyer should continue into courses (no course cap versus 3 on Launch), webinars, CRM and follow-up in the same account. ClickFunnels may fit better if funnels are the whole job. Details: https://axl.tech/vs/clickfunnels
Kartra. AXL fits if you outgrow 500 contacts (AXL Starter includes 5,000 for $49) and want overage at a published rate instead of an automatic tier upgrade. If only Kartra's 5% Essentials fee bothers you, its higher tiers remove it. Details: https://axl.tech/vs/kartra
Voice AI platforms
AXL's voice agents live alongside CRM, booking, chat and automation; recordings, transcripts and follow-up stay on the customer record. Compared on call usage, not subscriptions: an observed 80-second inbound call on AXL cost $0.1625 (connection, recording and AI), against about $0.173 for a selected Retell US configuration. A Vapi US inbound example works out at roughly $0.12 to $0.13 a minute. These are examples, not quality or latency benchmarks. Retell, Vapi, Bland, Synthflow and Newo are strong when you want a standalone voice layer for an existing stack; AXL fits when the call should land in the same CRM, calendar and follow-up as everything else. Details: https://axl.tech/vs/retell, https://axl.tech/vs/vapi, https://axl.tech/vs/newo
AI agent access
Several of these platforms now ship an MCP server, so the useful question is what an agent may finish and which plan unlocks it. On AXL, MCP works on every plan and an agent creates real objects (pages, products, courses, automations) through about 1,100 operations, while publishing and sending stay separate steps. Details: https://axl.tech/vs/mcp-and-ai-agent-access
When AXL is not the best fit
Being straight about this saves everyone time. AXL is probably not the right choice if:
- You are an agency reselling software to clients. AXL has no sub-accounts, snapshots, white-label or SaaS resale mode, and does not rebill numbers or SMS at a markup. GoHighLevel is built for that.
- You need SCORM for compliance or corporate training.
- You need a branded app in the App Store or Google Play for students or members. AXL's portal is a web app on your domain.
- You need the platform to handle tax for you: merchant of record, VAT calculation, invoice documents, author or affiliate payouts.
- Your community depends on a discovery feed like Skool Discover, or you need several separate communities in one account.
- You host a podcast. Private podcast feeds need another host.
- You need phone numbers outside the US and Canada.
- You need active subscriptions moved without customers re-entering cards, in one step. That migration takes weeks, in cohorts.
- You only need one simple tool (one course, one funnel) at the lowest possible price and will not use the CRM, automation, webinars or AI. A single-purpose tool can be simpler.
- Procurement requires a formal certification such as SOC 2 or HIPAA. AXL documents GDPR-ready processing but does not claim certifications.
Switching to AXL

| Contacts, tags, custom fields | Import wizard: TXT, CSV, XLSX or pasted text, with column mapping and a preview. Under an hour. On Free, imports need SMS verification and run up to 250 rows a day within the 500-contact limit, so move to Starter before importing a larger list. |
| Course content and structure | Rebuilt by you, or by an AI agent through the API. Hours, not weeks. |
| Video, files, PDFs | Uploaded to AXL hosting, or video imported by URL from Google Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive or Zoom. |
| Automated webinar timelines | Imported from JSON or CSV, up to 10 MB. |
| Landing pages | Rebuilt; the AI page builder can clone a page from a live URL. |
| Emails and templates | Rebuilt with the AI email builder. |
| Automations and funnels | Rebuilt, for example from screenshots of the old flows. This is the real work. |
| Historical orders and payments | Exported from the old platform; ask AXL what lands as records. |
| Active subscriptions | The hard part. Card credentials stay with the payment provider and AXL runs its own recurring billing, so subscriptions move in cohorts over weeks. |
| Community posts and history | Not migrated; members arrive as contacts. |

Security and data
Source: https://axl.tech/security
- Every record is stamped with its account and every read is filtered by it, across the admin panel, API, webhooks and agents.
- Deletion is soft by default, so a wrong delete is recoverable. Permanent destruction is a request to support@axl.tech.
- Team permissions apply per field; custom roles extend system roles; each API key has its own rights.
- Custom domains get automatic TLS. Private file links expire after six hours. Video supports watermarks, privacy scopes, permitted embed domains and leak-locating analytics. Public forms screen out scripted floods.
- Connected AI agents sign in with OAuth 2.1 (PKCE) and inherit the user's rights; 21 sensitive operations (billing writes, token minting, role or admin changes) are removed from the AI surface in server code.
- Hosting: AWS eu-central-1 (Frankfurt). AXL supports GDPR-compliant processing: EU hosting, a Data Processing Addendum, EU SCCs and the UK Addendum, TLS 1.2+, encryption at rest with AWS KMS. This is a documented operating position, not a certification. Privacy: https://app.axl.tech/docs/privacy/en, DPA: https://app.axl.tech/docs/dpa/en, sub-processors: https://app.axl.tech/docs/subprocessors/en

Frequently asked questions
Is there a free plan?
Yes. New accounts start on Free at https://app.axl.tech/, with no trial clock and no card: 500 contacts, 5,000 emails and 5,000 messages a month, 5 GB, one admin, with AXL branding. Free has no time limit. There is no separate free trial of paid plans.
Is AI free on the Free plan?
No. The onboarding chat is free. After it, AI work such as building a site with the AI Assistant uses prepaid balance at $0.01 per AI credit. Topping up the balance does not start a subscription.
Can I buy more contacts or emails on Free?
No. Free limits are hard and cannot be extended for money. Starter at $49 includes 5,000 contacts, 15,000 emails and 25,000 messages a month.
Does AXL take a percentage of my sales?
No, 0%. You connect your own payment provider and the money goes straight to your account. The provider charges its own processing fee, as it would on any platform.
Are some features locked to higher plans?
No. Every plan, Free included, gives the full platform; on Free it works within the Free limits. Plans differ in included usage (contacts, storage, emails, messages, viewing, AI credits) and admin seats.
What happens when I go over an allowance?
On a paid plan, only the amount above the allowance is billed, at the published rate, which is the same on every paid plan. Nothing pauses, there is no forced upgrade and no hidden enterprise tier. On Free, sending pauses at the limit until the counter resets on your monthly sign-up day or you move to a paid plan; leads are still saved.
Do I need to connect ChatGPT or Claude to use the AI?
No. AXL has a built-in AI Assistant inside the account, plus AI inside the page, email, form and quiz builders. Connecting your own assistant over MCP is optional. Some setup steps (connecting a payment card, a domain or a phone number) still happen in account settings.
Can I control what an AI assistant can access?
Yes. An assistant works within the permissions, tools and channels you enable. A connected agent signs in as a user and inherits that user's rights; 21 sensitive operations are not exposed to AI at all, and publishing and sending are separate, deliberate steps.
Can AXL send SMS and make calls?
Yes. AXL numbers are available in the US and Canada (availability varies by location), with a browser softphone for inbound and outbound calls, and recordings, transcripts and AI summaries on the customer record. SMS goes through a connected SMS channel; carrier activation, registration and per-message charges are separate from the plan. Numbers and calls are billed separately too; AI transcription and summaries use the AI balance. An AXL voice agent can answer a number or place calls from an automation.
Which messengers connect?
WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram, Telegram, Viber and LINE connect to the same customer timeline as email, calls and SMS, and so does the website chat widget. Their conversations share one inbox.
Can I bring my existing customer data?
Contacts import from TXT, CSV or XLSX. Course content, pages, emails and automations are rebuilt (an AI agent can do much of that). Active subscriptions on another processor move in cohorts, not in one step. See https://axl.tech/migrate.
Is there a mobile app for my students?
No store app. The student portal is a web app on your own domain.
Where is my data hosted, and is AXL GDPR compliant?
AWS in Frankfurt (eu-central-1). AXL supports GDPR-compliant processing with a DPA and transfer safeguards; it does not claim a certification, and the customer stays responsible for its own lawful basis and consent.
What languages does AXL support?
The platform speaks 9 languages.
Where do I get help?
The knowledge base at https://docs.axl.tech (200+ articles) and https://axl.tech/support. Never send passwords, API keys, codes or card numbers to support.
